Espostoa nana is a species of plant in the genus Espostoa from the cactus family(Cactaceae). The specific epithet nana means '(lat. Nanus) dwarf'.

description

Espostoa nails grow bushy with from the base of branched stems and reaches stature heights of up to 1.5 meters. The cylindrical, green shoots have a diameter of 5 to 8 centimeters. There are 16 to 22 low, blunt ribs on which there are oval, white to yellow areoles . The occasional light yellow central spine is significantly longer than the radial spines. The approximately 30 needle-like, straight, shiny, light yellow radial spines are up to 8 millimeters long. The outermost of them are transformed into hairs 2 to 4 centimeters long . The cephalium is white or light yellow.

The white flowers are 5 to 6 inches long. The light green fruits have a length of 2.5 to 4 centimeters and a diameter of 2.2 to 3.5 centimeters.

Distribution and systematics

Espostoa nana is common in Peru in the Ancash region in the Río Santa Valley .

It was first described in 1964 by Friedrich Ritter . Synonyms are Pseudoespostoa nana (F.Ritter) Backeb. (1966) and Espostoa melanostele subsp. nana (F.Ritter) GJCharles (2002).
