The Estadio Agustín Coruco Díaz is a football stadium in Zacatepec de Hidalgo , Mexico , which is the home ground of the CD Zacatepec football club . Currently (2013) it is in a renovation phase, which is related to the goal of the local authorities to bring the Cañeros team into one of the two professional leagues.
history
The stadium was built in the late 1940s and initially opened under the name Parque del Ingenio . This makes it one of the oldest football stadiums still in existence in Mexico . Its establishment was necessary to enable the Cañeros de Zacatepec football team a starting place in the Segunda División , which was planned as early as 1947 and began playing in 1950.
The CD Zacatepec went down in history in this stadium as the first second division champion in Mexico and thus achieved promotion to the top division straight away . The Cañeros not only belonged to this eleven years in a row for the next eleven years until they were first relegated from the House of Lords in 1962, but also celebrated the greatest successes in their club's history during this period, when they were twice champions and in the second half of the 1950s Cup winners were. One of the pillars of the successful team at the time was striker Agustín "Coruco" Díaz , who died in the early 1960s at the age of only 26. In his honor, the stadium was given its current name in 1964.
