The Estadio Manuel Ferreira ( German  Manuel Ferreira Stadium ) is a football stadium in the Paraguayan capital Asunción . The facility is owned by the Club Olimpia football club and is also known under the names El Bosque de Para Uno or El Bosque . The venue was officially opened on May 15, 1965 and offers 23,732 seats. The stadium was named after the former club president Manuel Ferreira Sosa .

history

The stadium was officially opened on May 15, 1965. On August 4th of that year Olimpia Asunción and FC Santos (2-2) met in the stadium. The rush for the game in which Pelé took part was so great that the stadium's capacity was exceeded. During the game, fences collapsed due to the crowd, injuring several spectators. When Pelé saw this, he ran to the scene of the accident to help the injured. The game was later continued without further complications.

Although the Estadio Manuel Ferreira is the home stadium of Olimpia, important international matches, such as the home games in the Copa Libertadores , or derbies, e.g. B. used against the Club Cerro Porteño , the Estadio Defensores del Chaco because of its larger capacity.

Club Olimpia is aiming to renovate or rebuild the stadium. The future venue is expected to hold up to 55,000 spectators, making it more than twice the size of the Estadio Manuel Ferreira. A new building is currently preferred. First, the shareholders of the association would have to be asked about the plans.

Nickname

The nickname El Bosque de Para Uno comes from the large trees surrounding the stadium, which give the impression that you are in a forest ( Spanish Bosque = German  forest ) and the train line "Uno" ( one ) which is at the location of the stadium passed earlier.
