history

Label of the beer brand after which the Estadio Victoria is named

After the Club Necaxa decided in 2001 to look for a new location in the Mexican capital due to the lack of audience participation and Aguascalientes was chosen, construction of the stadium began in the location around 400 kilometers northwest of Mexico City . The brewery group Grupo Modelo secured the naming rights for 25 years and gave the stadium the name of the oldest still existing beer brand in Mexico .

In the six seasons between 2003/04 and 2008/09 the stadium was the home of the Primera División and since the relegation of Necaxa in spring 2009 it has been the home of the second-rate Liga de Ascenso .

The stadium was opened on July 26, 2003 with a friendly game between Necaxa and Mexico's most popular club Chivas Guadalajara , which ended 0-1 from the home club's point of view. The golden goal for the guests was scored by Jorge Barrera, who also went down in the annals as the first shooter for the new stadium.

In the same year, the Mexican national team completed an international match against the Dominican Republic , which was won 8-0.
