The Estadio de Bata is a football stadium with athletics track in Bata in the western province of Litoral in Equatorial Guinea . It is the largest stadium in the African country.

The stadium hosted the 2008 African Cup of Nations , the men's 2012 and 2015 matches .

history

The stadium was completed in 2007 with 22,000 seats. A year later it was one of two venues for the 2008 African Cup of Nations . In 2012, Equatorial Guinea is the first time the venue, along with neighboring Gabon , the African Cup . The sports facility was expanded to 35,700 seats for the tournament. It is the venue for the opening ceremony and eight games including the opening game and a semi-final. The converted stadium celebrated its inauguration on January 6, 2012. On this occasion, the national teams of Equatorial Guinea and South Africa met . The game ended in a 0-0 draw. The President of Equatorial Guinea Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo initiated the initiative. At the 2015 African Cup of Nations, u. a. the final will take place at the Estadio de Bata.

An upper tier was added to the venue, which previously had a circular grandstand tier. The two parts of the roof over the main and opposite stands gave way to a complete roof over the tiers.
