Esther Morales-Cañadas

Esther Morales-Cañadas (born February 25, 1951 in Seville ) is a Spanish harpsichordist and musicologist .

education

Esther Morales-Cañadas received her training in Seville ( piano and art history ) and at the Mozarteum in Salzburg (harpsichord and musicology), among others with Nikolaus Harnoncourt , Cesar Bresgen , Rafael Puyana and Paul Badura-Skoda . She has received several scholarships from the Spanish, Portuguese and French governments.

Concerts in Spain, France and Germany made her known in these countries as an original interpreter of both Spanish and German music for harpsichord. In addition to early music , the concerts by Francis Poulenc and Manuel de Falla as well as works by contemporary composers belong to her repertoire. Since the CD production of cembalo espressivo , it can also be heard on recordings.

Musicology

In 1998 Esther Morales-Cañadas presented her dissertation on The Ornaments in Spanish Music of the 17th and 18th Centuries , the first comprehensive presentation on this subject. Since then she has published numerous works on topics of performance practice. She is considered an expert on the subjects of affect and rhetoric in music.

Others

Esther Morales-Cañadas has won a literary award and has also worked as an author and illustrator of fiction books. She has also written numerous articles and lectures on the history of art in Spain and leads a theater group in Spanish.

She is a granddaughter of the doctor José María Cañadas Bueno .
