Eternal Tears of Sorrow (EToS) is a Finnish melodic death metal band from Pudasjärvi .

history

Already in 1992 Jarmo Puolakanaho and Altti Veteläinen founded their first band under the name "Andromeda" and recorded the demo The Forth Dimension . Shortly afterwards, Olli-Pekka Törrö joined the band as a guitarist alongside a drummer and a singer. After the rehearsal room burned down, the band project was given up. Jarmo Puolakanaho, Altti Veteläinen and Olii-Pekka Törrö recorded another demo Beyond the Fantasy in 1993 under the name "MDC" .

The last renaming followed in 1994. "Eternal Tears of Sorrow" was founded and under this name they first recorded the next demo Seventh Goddesses of Frost in the physics room of the local school. But for the next songs it should be a real studio and the decision was made in favor of the Tico-Tico-Studio in Kemi, 150 kilometers away . After Sentenced finished mixing for Amok , they could use the studio for a day. Here they recorded the four songs for Bard's Burial . With this demo the search for a label began.

In 1995 all three had to join the military. Meanwhile, songs by Bard's Burial were released on two samplers in Canada and Belgium. In the spring of 1996, the band signed with the X-Treme Records label in Gothenburg and in July began recording their debut album, but there were difficulties with its release. Sinner's Serenade was only released in September 1997 . In 1997 the band gave their first concert. For the performance at the Jyrkkäkoski Midnight Festival in Pudasjärvi they got guitarist Antti Kokko and drummer Petri Sankala to support them.

In 1998 they recorded the second album Vilda Mánnu in the Tico-Tico-Studio . Since the contract with X-Treme Records had already expired, a new label was looked for and found in Spinefarm Records . The song Burning Flames' Embrace was released in November 1998 on the single Sacrament of Wilderness by Nightwish , the album followed in December.

In January 1999 the band went on tour through Finland for the first time with Barathrum . Then Olli-Pekka Törrö left the band for personal reasons. Session drummer Petri Sankala became a permanent member of the band, which was completed with keyboardist Pasi Hiltula and guitarist Antti-Matti Talala. In the following November, with the help of producer Mikko Karmila, the third album Chaotic Beauty was recorded in the Tico-Tico studio , which was released in February 2000. A European tour with Nightwish and Sinergy followed. When Antti-Matti Talala had to join the military, he was replaced by Antti Kokko ( Kalmah ).

In 2001, the fourth album A Virgin and a Whore was recorded and released in October of the same year shortly after the first single The Last One for Life . They opened up for Megadeth at a concert in Oulu .

In 2002 a longer break was announced before Altti Veteläinen and Jarmo Puolakanaho broke up the band in 2003.

In February 2005 the return of "Eternal Tears of Sorrow" was announced. Veteläinen, Puolakanaho and Sankala found new members in guitarist Risto Ruuth and keyboardist Janne Tolsa. Before the Bleeding Sun was released in May 2006 and reached number 26 in the Finnish album charts.
