Sinergy was a Scandinavian power metal band with melodic death metal influences that was founded in Sweden , but had since moved to Finland .

history

Kimberly Goss formed the band Sinergy in 1997. In the years before, she played keyboard with Dimmu Borgir, among others . Additional members Jesper Strömblad ( In Flames ), Alexi Laiho ( Children of Bodom ), Sharlee D'Angelo ( Arch Enemy ) and Ronny Milianowicz of the founding members. The debut album Beware the Heavens recorded with this line-up was accepted by the masses on a successful tour through Japan in 1999 . Then the band introduced a new line-up, which, in addition to Kimberly Goss and Alexi Laiho, consisted of Roope Latvala (main band Waltari , since 2003 also with Children of Bodom), Marco Hietala ( Tarot ) and Tonmi Lillman ( To / Die / For ). The reason for this was that the previous members lived in two countries and were also tied to their main bands, which made songwriting and rehearsals a problem.

Since the new members also played in other bands, they had to promise to keep Sinergy serious and lasting. This was followed by a European tour and in 2000 the second album To Hell and Back with a promotional tour through Mexico and other countries. Just a year later, the third album was finished: Suicide by My Side . The album was the last with Tonmi Lillman - who then left the band. His successor was initially Mats Karlsson, then three months later Janne Parviainen. Then bassist Marco Hietala switched to Nightwish and was replaced by Lauri Porra. The band then began work on a fourth album called The Sins of the Past . In 2007 the band announced that a lot of the recorded material had disappeared, but the almost completed album could be released in 2008. In fact, however, the band broke up at an unknown point in time.

style

Within the Metal Hammer editorial team, there were different opinions about the style of the debut album. In the review written by Matthias Mineur it is said that it can be assigned to Melodic Power Metal and interspersed with classical quotes, while in a later overall editorial review there is talk of a strong Death Metal portion, which will only benefit from the successors traditional metal elements has declined. Daniel Böhm spoke of a “mixture of Children of Bodom and Hammerfall ” on the occasion of the release of To Hell and Back , which is now “less symphonic, but with a much more pronounced eighties vibe”. And Goss is a "mixture of Lita Ford and Michael Sweet ". Andreas Stappert from Rock Hard said she looked “like a metal queen of the eighties”. The style of To Hell and Back is pure "Metal". With Suicide by My Side there was an "increase in heavy metal hardness", said Daniel Böhm in the Metal Hammer . Michael Edele from Laut.de and Götz Kühnemund from Rock Hard came up with the simple formula “Power Metal” , the latter still having Goss' “Power Vocals, which almost reach the level of Lee Aaron or Leather Leone ( Chastain ) at the best of times “Mentioned.

Contrary to the brilliant appearance of their front woman, the fellow musicians are experienced as "slightly cramped and somewhat stiff" or "rooted on the boards" during live performances.
