Ethne
Ethne , also Eithne , is the name of several figures in Celtic mythology in Ireland .
- In the Lebor Gabala Eirenn ("The Book of the Lands of Ireland") she is considered by Elatha as the mother of Dagda and Ogma , as well as Delbaeth .
- Ethniu is the daughter of the formors Balor and Cethlionn and thus the mother of Lugh and the grandmother of Abhcan .
- Etan, Dian Cecht's daughter , is also mentioned as Abhcan's grandmother, it is not certain whether the same legendary figure is meant.
- Étaín is the name of Tuirenn's daughter, another possible form of the name Ethne / Eithne.
- In the legend Esnada Tige Buchet , the daughter of King Cathair Mór and wife Cormac mac Airts are named Eithne Tháebfhota.
- The wife of the legendary High King Fíachu Finnolach is said to have been called that.
- Likewise the mother of the Irish patron saint Columban of Iona .
- The name Áine , carried by some legendary figures, is another name variation (see there).
