Etienne Baele

Etienne Baele (born April 29, 1891 , † 1975 ) was a lieutenant general in the Belgian armed forces .

Life

Baele completed an officer training and after its completion found various uses in the army . He was promoted to colonel on December 26, 1938 and at the beginning of the attack by the German Wehrmacht in 1940 he was the commander of the 7th Artillery Regiment . On June 26, 1944, was promoted to major general. After the end of the Second World War he was promoted to lieutenant general and in February 1950 took over the post of chief of the general staff. In 1951 he replaced General Omar N. Bradley as chairman of the NATO Military Committee and held this position until he was replaced by General Charles Foulkes in 1952.
