Saattue is a Finnish doom metal and death doom band from Riihimäki , which was founded in 2001 under the name Kiduttajat .

history

The band was founded in 2001 in the Papillon Bar in Riihimäki under the name Kiduttajat. After two demos in 2004 the name was changed to Saattue. Then the EP Kivisydän appeared first in the same year. Bianca Hösli was a guest singer in the studio. The original members Vesa Mänty (electric guitar, vocals), Harri Lampinen (electric guitar) and Valtteri Heinonen (electric bass), all of whom had previously been active in the band Braindrain, were joined by third guitarist Tero Kalliomäki and drummer Tony Kristian. Gigs all over Finland followed. This allowed the band to expand their fan base and songs were occasionally played on the radio. Then Mänty decided to only play electric guitar, whereupon Tuukka Koskinen was added as a singer. In addition, the bassist Valtteri Heinonen left the group, who was replaced by Samu Lahtinen. After further concerts, the group paused from their live activity before Mänty left the band in 2005. Shortly afterwards, drummer Kristian did the same. Mikael "Miku" Ahlstén became his replacement. Jani Koskela joined as the new guitarist. Further concerts were then held with this changed line-up. In January 2006 the demo Ikiuneen… , which contains three songs, was released. Shortly after the recording of the band had a concert in the Estonian Tallinn gave her first concert abroad. However, through the demo, the band could not achieve a record deal. To promote the demo, additional gigs were held in southern Finland while new material was being written. Four songs were then rehearsed and pre-produced before, after a few problems, the band retired to the D-Studio in Klaukkala in May 2007 to record the EP Jäähyvästi . As a result, the band reached a record deal with the Spinefarm Records label that same year , which had already shown interest in Ikiuneen . Then the band went back to the studio to expand the EP to a full album with seven songs. The album was released at the end of January 2008 on the sub-label Spikefarm Records . Miki Garam, Tapio Kuosma, Karri Knuutila, Samu Brusila, Toni Toivonen and Ines Lukkanen are included as guest singers. In November 2009 the second album followed under the name Vuoroveri . The third album was released in August 2016 under the name Kärsimysnäytelmä via Endless Desperation Productions .

style

Ronny Bittner from Rock Hard described the music on Jäähyvästi as "nested Doom Metal ", which is mainly characterized by its melody. The singing is in Finnish and variable and ranges from growls to clear vocals. The songs are usually quite slow and over time the dynamic structure of the individual songs would be similar. In a later issue, Andreas Stappert reviewed Vuoroveri and found that the album sounds "[l] slowly advancing, majestic and dignified". The basis of the songs is Doom Metal, which is enriched by "[d] ezente keyboard carpets, luxurious guitars, a mix of deathgrowls , variable clean vocals and the angelic voice of guest singer Ines Lukkanen ( Embassy Of Silence )". The songs would pile up more and more, creating “a completely unique atmosphere between beauty and pure despair”. Mournful melodies would create a “proverbial Finnish melancholy”. Alex Drozd from doom-metal.com assigned the group to Death Doom in his review of Kärsimysnäytelmä . The songs sometimes have a stamping and marching, sometimes a chanting and hitting character. The varied singing is similar to that of Gojira and Machine Head . Occasionally the group also makes use of synthesizers. The electric guitars were on Tremolo - riffs and breakdowns without. For Doom Metal standards, the pace of the album is not particularly slow, but rather in the middle range.
