etoy (artist)
ETOY ( spelling etoy / etoy.CORPORATION ) is an international group of artists that has been dealing with new technologies in art production since 1994. The office is located in Zurich .
etoy blurs the boundaries of artistic authorship , as changing members (agents) carry out the production work and investors can participate in the etoy brand. This enables etoy to combine different resources and skills. The authenticity of the works and documents is authenticated by the etoy.HOLOGRAM.

Etoy.CORPORATION has been looking for independent ways to research alternative production conditions in art since 1994. The most important basis is the use of a company under which all etoy.AGENTS operate. etoy replaces the concept of the individual artist with a name and symbol that stands for the connection between the individual artist. All etoy projects are based on collaboration: on mutual inspiration within an organized crew, on the division of labor , quality control, risk distribution, etc. The individual author is deliberately and in principle rejected because a complex digital work is equally visual, technical and conceptual Aspects is determined and supported. So there is no brilliant mind behind etoy, no one who alone would be able to plan or implement operations like Mission Eternity . In order to prevent personality cults, the etoy.AGENTEN take a back seat to the trademark in public. The AGENT as an individual is of great importance internally and in the handling of projects or as an investor. His voting rights and his shares in etoy secure his influence. Every etoy.AGENT has a veto right, which can bring etoy production to a standstill, and every etoy.AGENT is conceptually interchangeable.
In practice, five etoy.CORE-AGENTS form the management and core of the etoy organization. At the annual general meeting , you undertake to lead a specific area (technology, finance, etc.) for one year, and you are available to the corporation for ongoing day-to-day business.
history
Etoy was founded in 1994 by Gino Esposto (etoy.ESPOSTO / CARL), Michel Zai (etoy.ZAI), Daniel Udatny (etoy.UDATNY), Martin Kubli (etoy.KUBLI), Marky Goldstein (etoy.GOLDSTEIN), Fabio Gramazio ( etoy.GRAMAZIO) and Hans Bernhard (etoy.BRAINHARD / HANS). Etoy became known worldwide with the digital hijack in 1996 . In the same year etoy won the Prix Ars Electronica . The group's work includes numerous digital performances .
After internal conflicts in 1998, after several resignations from the founding members, only Gramazio, Zai and Kubli were left. New agents supported etoy in 1999/2000 in the battle against the online toy retailer eToys, known as toywar , for the internet domain "etoy.com" and American trademark rights. Etoy.CORPORATION has been working on Mission Eternity since 2005 . The director Andrea Reiter made a documentary film about this art project that deals with death and eternity. She and her team followed etoy.CREW and their Mission Eternity Sarcophagus to Berlin, Zurich, San Jose and Nevada. The Hugofilm production was released in early 2008. Over a hundred etoy shares are owned by art collectors, museums and others. Each certificate documents a (ownership) share in the overall work and at the same time visually represents an important moment in the company's or art history.
