The Etsdorfer Kellergasse is located in the cadastral community of Etsdorf as part of the market town of Grafenegg .

location

Starting from the center of Etsdorf - in the extension of Obere Marktstrasse - the cellar lane, built on both sides, extends northwards. It begins after crossing the railway at the greenhouse of the winegrowing association and extends to the cellar of the volunteer fire brigade. Topographically, this entire section lies in a hollow ditch and is spanned in the last third by a bridge on the B 34 Kamptalstraße .

The total number of press houses is 44.

Description of the press houses / cellar lane

The cellar lane is located in a ditch, the two cellar rows are raised on both sides above the state road and are accompanied by two mostly unpaved paths. The continuously shady planting with nut trees and acacias on the embankment to the country road and the coordinated forecourt and seating areas contribute to the harmonious overall character. The supply of electricity and water through the local water supply and sewer connection is given.

Many vintners are constantly renovating their traditional wine storage facilities with care and a feeling for the original construction methods. The press houses of the hobby winemakers consist of a parlor, a spacious press house with a tree press and a long vault. The staircase to the cellar vineyard is on the side. The press houses of the company winemakers were adapted for a wine production or adapted as a wine tavern .

At the entrance to the Kellergasse one encounters the sculpture of the "Weinberggeiß", which was erected in 1981 and carries a heavy load of colorful vines on its back. It is the distinguishing feature of the Kellergasse and is now a secret landmark of the place.

From a geological point of view, Etsdorf mainly has clay soils, which can store moisture well. In addition, there are sometimes lighter gravel or sandy soils. The white wine offer clearly predominates with Grüner Veltliner and Riesling varieties, while the Zweigelt dominates the red wine sector .

Kellergasse 6 is where the Wittmann House , built by the Austrian architect Johannes Spalt in the years 1970–1975 for the furniture manufacturer Wittmann and completely renovated in the years 2016–2017 , is one of the most important Austrian architectural creations after 1945.

use

Active wine production still takes place in most press houses. There are still many full-time businesses represented.

The Etsdorf Kellergasse, in the immediate vicinity of Grafenegg Castle , is used for wine tourism. The Kellergasse Festival in July has been a fixed point for more than a quarter of a century. The focus is on tasting various wines, home-made dishes and other products. In the summer months, the individual Heurigen companies coordinate their opening times so that continuous serving is guaranteed.

Another festival in November is the baptism of wine and traditional wine tasting. In addition, winemakers take part in the Kamptaler Weinfrühling, events also take place in Advent, and the annual festival of the volunteer fire brigade takes place in Kellergasse. At the end of the Kellergasse, the FF has rooms with a fairground in the form of a meadow with shady acacias . A playground was built opposite.

The Kellergasse serves as a local recreation area, so cycling and hiking routes as well as the Way of St. James lead through the Kellergasse.
