Etta Countess of Waldersee

Etta Anna Louise Countess von Waldersee , born Baroness von Le Fort (born November 22, 1902 in Altona , † March 7, 1978 in Kiel ) was a German noblewoman.

Career

Etta von Le Fort came from the Mecklenburg-Baltic noble family Le Fort and was a niece of Gertrud von Le Fort . She studied history and psychology in Berlin. While still a student she was a co-founder of the welfare organization Mütterliche Hilfe and from 1922 to 1928 volunteered as its managing director. In 1928 she married Alfred Graf von Waldersee (1898–1984), managing director of Franz Haniel & Cie. in Duisburg.

At the beginning of the Second World War, she volunteered at the Presidium of the German Red Cross (DRK) in Berlin and assumed the position of special commissioner for prisoners of war. After the war ended, she co-founded the DRK regional association in North Rhine-Westphalia and was its vice-president until 1960. When the DRK was re-established at federal level in 1950, she became Vice President and remained so until 1966.

On behalf of the federal government, she was also chairwoman of the German Committee for UNICEF and a member of the ZDF television council from its foundation in 1953 .
