Eucharius Holzach (politician)

Eucharius Holzach (* before 1480 ; † 1521 in Basel ) was a Swiss merchant and politician .

Life

Holzach, son of the chief guild master Oswald Holzach , was a shopkeeper (merchant) in Basel and belonged to five different guilds. 1507–1516 he was a councilor and from 1517–1521 guild master of the guild of household members. He was also a triple, court and roll call lord. He provided various embassies to the Confederation and to the Upper Rhine for his hometown. In 1515 he took part as a lieutenant in the campaign that culminated in the battle of Marignano . In 1521 he was expelled from the council for accepting French pension payments. He was married three times, first to Bertha Zscheckenbürlin, then to Ursula Kilchmann and finally to Dorothea Jungemann, a daughter of Councilor Hans Jungemann. Around 1500 he had a stately home built for himself on Lindenberg in Kleinbasel, which is now called Hattstätterhof after a later owner.
