Euchilichthys is a genus of the African catfish family Mochokidae . Euchilichthys species are 10 to 22 centimeters long and have an elongated, laterally only slightly flattened, scaly body. Typical of the genus are a subordinate, large sucking mouth, which is surrounded by lips, which are covered with papillae, a bony plate on the head and neck and two pairs of unfleathered barbels . The eyes are small and close to the center line of the head. The paired nostrils are also close together, the upper one is lobed. The teeth on the premaxillary are curved, pointed and arranged in a wide band. The teeth on the maxillary are slender, have notched, compressed, or hook-shaped crowns, and stand in a narrow row. The short dorsal fin and lies far in front, behind, just before the caudal peduncle, an adipose fin . The caudal fin is forked with the lower lobe slightly longer than the upper. The pectoral fins are very wide and are supported by a strong, sawn fin spine. The shoulder process is pointed and triangular. The three-part swim bladder is small. Euchilichthys species are mostly grayish or brown-gray in color and spotted.
