Eufranio Eriguel

Eufranio "Franny" C. Eriguel (born June 12, 1959 ; † May 12, 2018 in Agoo ) was a Filipino politician of the Nationalist People's Coalition (NPC), who was Mayor of Agoo between 1998 and 2007 and a member of the House of Representatives from 2010 to 2016 was.

Life

Doctor and Mayor of Agoo

After attending school, Eriguel first completed a pre-medical degree at the University of Santo Tomas , which he completed in 1979 with a Bachelor of Science (BS General / Pre-med). He then completed a medical degree at the University of Santo Tomas in 1983 with a doctorate in medicine (MD) and then completed a one-year postgraduate internship at the Veterans Memorial Medical Center (VMMC), founded in 1955 with the support of the US Veterans Administration . He was then a military doctor at the Camp Dangwa military base in the Ilocos region and a doctor at the Eastern Medical Hospital , before his last position as a doctor at the national tourism authority PTA ( Philippine Tourism Authority ). He was also active as President of the Titans Medical Foundation and a member of the Philippine Academy of Family Physician .

Eriguel's political career began when he became mayor of Agoo on July 1, 1998 and held this office until June 30, 2007. During his tenure, the population grew from 51,923 (2000) to 57,952 (2007). Since he had reached the maximum consecutive eligibility limit in 2007 after nine years in office, he could not run again for the office of Mayor of Agoo. Instead, he became an advisor to the La Union Provincial Government on Local Affairs on May 15, 2008, and served until June 30, 2010.

Member of the House of Representatives

In the elections on May 10, 2010 , Eriguel was elected as a candidate for the Nationalist People's Coalition (NPC) in the constituency for the first time as a member of the House of Representatives and represented the La Union 2nd District in this . In this election he was able to prevail with 121,236 votes (64.61 percent) clearly against the candidate of the Lakas Democracy Cong Kristiyano at Muslim (Lakas-Kampi), Tomas Dumpit, Jr., to 63,622 votes (33.91 percent) accounted for.

Eriguel was re-elected in the May 13, 2013 elections. With 145,322 votes (79.2 percent) and a majority of 118,285 votes (64.47 percentage points), he again clearly prevailed against his challenger Tomas Dumpit, Jr., who this time ran for the National Unity Party (NUP) and accounted for the 27,037 votes (14.74 percent). In the 16th legislative period , which ran from 2013 to 2016  , he was Chairman of the Parliament's Health Committee . This is responsible for all matters that are directly and fundamentally concerned with public health and hygiene, quarantine, hospitals and other medical facilities and services.

Erigual was killed in an attack on a campaign rally in Agoo on May 12, 2018 .
