Eugène Louis Constant (born January 8, 1901 in Boulogne-sur-Mer , † October 22, 1970 ibid) was a French rower who was second in the 1924 Olympics in the four with helmsman .

Athletic career

Eugène Constant rowed for the Émulation Nautique Boulonnaise in Boulogne-sur-Mer. At the European Championships in 1923, together with Raymond Talleux and helmsman Ernest Barberolle, he won bronze in two with a helmsman behind the boats from Switzerland and Italy.

At the Olympic Games in Paris in 1924, Constant and Talleux and helmsman Marcel Lepan won the lead in front of the boat from the United States. In the second heat, the Swiss won ahead of the Italians. The French led the final for a long time, but fell behind on the last part of the track. The Swiss won ahead of the Italians, the boat from the United States won the bronze medal ahead of the French. In a four with a helmsman, Talleux, Constant and Lepan competed together with Louis Gressier and George Lecointe . The French won their lead. In the final, the rowers from Switzerland won three seconds ahead of the French, behind them the rowers from the United States came third in front of the Italians.

In 1923 and 1924 Constant was French champion in two with helmsman and in 1924 and 1926 in four with helmsman. Constant later was a building contractor and president of the Émulation Nautique Boulonnaise . In the French rowing association, he rose to vice-president.
