Eugène Kohler

Eugène Kohler (born February 28, 1887 in Strasbourg , † March 18, 1969 in Plobsheim ) was a French Romanist , Hispanic and Italianist.

Life

Eugène Kohler grew up as a German in Alsace . He received his doctorate in 1910 under Gustav Gröber at the University of Strasbourg with the work Seven Spanish Dramatic Eclogues with an introduction to the beginnings of Spanish drama . From 1919, now French, he was Maître de Conférences at the University of Strasbourg, from 1929 associate professor. From 1936 until his retirement in 1958 he held the chair for Spanish and Italian, but did research primarily as a Hispanist.

Kohler was a Knight of the Legion of Honor (1938).
