Eugen Wendel

Eugen Wendel (born June 17, 1864 in Brackenheim , † March 31, 1942 in Stuttgart ) was a German general physician , later a senior medical officer, and an honorary citizen of his hometown Brackenheim.

Life

Eugen Wendel was a son of the Brackenheimer Stadtschultheißen Gotthilf Wendel. After completing his studies, he joined Infantry Regiment No. 122 as a senior physician . In 1890 he became a medical officer in Field Artillery Regiment No. 13 . From 1892 he underwent surgical training at the Katharinenhospital in Stuttgart , before he was medical officer in Grenadier Regiment No. 119 from 1894 and from 1902 as a regimental doctor in the "König" No. 26 Dragoon Regiment . From 1913 he headed the garrison hospital in Ludwigsburg as chief physician . With the 26th Infantry Division he took part in the First World War, in the course of which he was appointed general physician and corps physician of the XIII. Wuerttemberg Army Corps was promoted. After the end of the war, until his retirement in 1928, he was the chief medical officer of the main supply office in Stuttgart. On December 22, 1930, together with his brother Otto Wendel, he was granted honorary citizenship of his hometown Brackenheim, where the brothers donated three church windows and regularly donated money for charitable purposes, although they had lost their citizenship as foreigners due to the new Württemberg municipal code of 1930 .

Since the winter semester 1882/83 he was a member of the student association AV Igel Tübingen .
