Eugene Regan

Eugene Alexander Regan (* 1952 ) is an Irish lawyer and judge at the European Court of Justice .

Regan first studied Politics and Economics at University College Dublin , where he earned his diploma in 1974 and a Masters in political economy in 1975. He then completed a master's degree in international law and comparative law at the Université libre de Bruxelles , which he completed in 1979. In parallel to these studies, he worked as a business analyst with the Irish Farmers' Association from 1975 . From 1976 until 1979 he headed their office at the European Economic Community in Brussels. From 1980 Regan was the executive director of the Irish Farmers' Association . In 1985 he moved to the staff of European Commissioner Peter Sutherland as political advisor . That same year, Regan was admitted to the Irish bar as a barrister . From 1989 to 1995 Regan was General Manager of the Irish meat processing company Agra Trading Ltd. He then worked as a barrister in Dublin. From 2007 to 2011 he sat as Senator for the Fine Gael in the Seanad Éireann . Since October 7, 2015 Regan has served as Ireland's judge at the European Court of Justice .
