Eugenijus Maldeikis (born August 27, 1958 in Anykščiai ) is a Lithuanian liberal politician , former member of the European Parliament for the party Liberalų Demokratieų partija .

Life

After graduating from high school in Didždvaris , Maldeikis studied economics at the M. Lomonossov State University in Moscow, where he received his doctorate in social sciences (economics) in 1987. From 1984 he was a lecturer at Vilnius University and from 1990 headed the Economic Reforms and Strategy Department of the Ministry of Economic Affairs . In 1992 he took over the management of the Center for Economic Research, and in 1996 he became Chairman of the Board and Head of Administration of the AG “Turto bankas”. In 1999 he became chairman of Deloitte & Touche Lithuania and in 2004 a member of the privatization commission. From 2005 Maldeikas was Associate Professor at the Mykolas-Romer University and in 2006 General Director of the " Balto media " holding (from " Achemos grupė ").

Maldeikis was a member of the Vilnius City Council in 1999 and 2002 respectively . He was a member of the Lithuanian Parliament ( Seimas ) from 2000 , previously he had been elected Minister of Economy of Lithuania in 1999. From 2003 he also became an observer in the European Parliament and an alternate member of the European Convention. Maldeikis was a member of the board of the Lithuanian Liberal Union from 1999 to 2004 and was deputy chairman of the Liberal Democratic Party. Maldeikis then became non-party.

Maldeikis is married. His wife Aušra Maldeikienė (* 1958) is an economist, politician (Seimas member, formerly a member of the Vilnius Council), publicist, business educator. They have the sons Matas Maldeikis (* 1980) and Mykolas Maldeikis (* 1987).
