Eulychnia breviflora is a species of plant in the genus Eulychnia from the cactus family(Cactaceae).
description
Eulychnia breviflora grows tree-shaped, is richly branched from the base and reaches heights of growth of 3 to 7 meters. There is a distinct, short trunk. The almost upright shoots are gray or dark green and have a diameter of 8 to 11 centimeters. There are 10 to 17 slightly humped ribs , which are occasionally furrowed between the areoles . The areoles are close together and are covered with plenty of wool and hair. The thorns are initially brownish and gray with age. It is often difficult to distinguish between central and radial spines. The 1 to 2 strong, protruding central spines are 10 to 20 centimeters long. The 10 to 20 spreading radial spines are up to 1.8 centimeters long.
The white or light pink flowers are 5 to 7 inches long. Your pericarpellet and the flower tube are covered with long, brownish wool. There are no stiff bristles. The spherical, fleshy to juicy fruits reach a diameter of 5 to 6 centimeters.
Distribution, systematics and endangerment
The distribution area of Eulychnia breviflora extends close to the coast from the south of the Chilean region of Atacama to the region of Coquimbo . The first description was in 1860 by Rudolph Amandus Philippi .
In the Red List of Threatened Species of the IUCN , the species is listed as " Least Concern (LC) ". H. listed as not endangered.
