Eulychnia iquiquensis is a species of plant in the genus Eulychnia from the cactus family(Cactaceae).

description

Eulychnia iquiquensis grows shrubby, branches near the base and reaches heights of 2 to 7 meters. A short trunk is formed. The upright, strong shoots are occasionally also branched higher up. There are 12 to 15 ribs that are slightly humped. The areoles on it are covered with short white wool. The variable 10 to 20 spines arising from them cannot be divided into central and radial spines. They are protruding and 2 to 12 inches long.

The white flowers appear near the shoot tips and are 5.5 to 6.5 inches long. Your pericarpel and the flower tube are thickly wooled white. The spherical fruits are densely covered with white wool and reach a diameter of 5 to 6 centimeters.

Distribution, systematics and endangerment

The distribution area of Eulychnia iquiquensis extends in the north of Chile from the Tarapacá region to the Atacama region , where it grows along the Cordilleras at altitudes of about 1000 meters. It was first described as Cereus iquiquensis in 1904 by Karl Moritz Schumann . Nathaniel Lord Britton and Joseph Nelson Rose placed them in the genus Eulychnia in 1920 .

In the Red List of Threatened Species of the IUCN , the species is listed as " Least Concern (LC) ". H. listed as not endangered.
