Eunuchs for the kingdom of heaven

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Eunuchs for the Kingdom of Heaven is a book by theologian Uta Ranke-Heinemann about the sexual morality of the Roman Catholic Church . The title of the book is derived from a verse in the Gospel of Matthew ( Mt 19.12  EU ): Because it is like this: Some are incapable of marriage from birth, some are made by people and some have made themselves so - um for the sake of the kingdom of heaven . The original Greek text calls those incapable of marriage εὐνοῦχοι ( eunuchs ). The book, published in 1988, took second place on the list of annual bestsellers 1989 of the magazine Der Spiegel for non-fiction books with 300,000 copies by the end of 1990.

content

The author criticizes, among other things, the church teaching on the use of contraceptives . The author also criticizes the fact that, according to the teaching of the Catholic Church, the permanent inability to have sexual intercourse is one of the obstacles to marriage by divine law, as well as the attitude of the Catholic Church towards practiced homosexuality (cf. Homosexuality and the Roman Catholic Church ). According to the author, the Catholic Church is still hostile to lust and has degenerated into a "shrink Christianity". The commitment to unborn life is disproportionate.
