Euphorbia amarifontana is a species of the genus milkweed ( Euphorbia ) in the family of the milkweed family(Euphorbiaceae).
description
The succulent Euphorbia amarifontana forms small shrubs with very dense branches up to a height of 30 centimeters or higher. The twigs are up to 4 millimeters thick. The branches above are opposite and spread out with an internodal distance of 1.8 to 5 centimeters. Very simplified leaves are formed, which as a rule have a long shelf life.
The flowers appear as dense cymes that are almost sessile. Bracts 0.7 millimeters in size are formed and the cyathia reach 1.5 millimeters in diameter. The nectar glands are elongated. Fruits and seeds are not known.
Distribution and systematics
Euphorbia amarifontana is common in South Africa in the Western Cape Province .
The species was first described in 1915 by Nicholas Edward Brown . A synonym is Tirucallia amarifontana (NEBr.) PVHeath (1996).
The species is possibly synonymous with Euphorbia chersina .
