Euphorbia borenensis is a species of the genus spurge ( Euphorbia ) in the family of Euphorbiaceae (Euphorbiaceae).
description
The succulent Euphorbia borenensis forms little branched shrubs up to 3 meters high. The square shoots are up to 2 centimeters thick and are green in color. On the edges there are flat teeth at a distance of 1 centimeter from one another. The elongated thorn shields are fused together on older shoots. The thorns at the base of the plant are up to 8 millimeters long and shorten the further up they are on the plant.
The inflorescence is formed from single and simple cymes , which stand on stems about 2 millimeters long. The yellow cyathia grow to a size of 6 millimeters and the elongated nectar glands adjoin each other. The bluntly lobed fruit is about 2.5 millimeters long and 4 millimeters wide. It is reddish in color and stands on a 4 millimeter long and bent back handle. The spherical seed is 1.5 millimeters in size and is covered with flat warts.
Distribution and systematics
Euphorbia borenensis is distributed in the south of Ethiopia and in the northeast of Kenya on limestone in acacia forests at altitudes of 400 to 1560 meters.
The species was first described in 1987 by Michael George Gilbert .
