Euphorbia brachiata is a species of the genus spurge ( Euphorbia ) in the family of Euphorbiaceae (Euphorbiaceae).

description

The succulent Euphorbia brachiata forms richly branched bushes up to 30 centimeters in height that are dioecious . The opposite or forked arranged shoots are up to 8 millimeters thick and are wide apart. The further branching shoots are tapered. The triangular leaves become 2 millimeters long and are short-lived.

The inflorescence is formed by twofold bifurcated cymes on 2 millimeter long stems. The bracts are 1 millimeter long and 1.5 millimeters wide. The cyathia reach 2 millimeters in diameter and the four to five elongated nectar glands stand individually. The spherical fruit is sitting and is 3 to 5 millimeters in size. Nothing is known about the seed.

Distribution and systematics

Euphorbia brachiata is widespread in the South African province of Western Cape in the Vanrhynsdorp district.

The species was first described in 1860 by Johann Friedrich Klotzsch and Christian August Friedrich Garcke as Arthrothamnus brachiatus . In 1862, Pierre Edmond Boissier placed the species in the genus Euphorbia . A synonym for this species is Tirucallia brachiata (Klotzsch) PVHeath (1996).
