Euphorbia bulbispina is a species of the genus spurge ( Euphorbia ) in the family of Euphorbiaceae (Euphorbiaceae).
description
The succulent Euphorbia bulbispina forms small shrubs up to 30 centimeters high and up to 1 meter in diameter. The trunk reaches a diameter of 3 centimeters at the base. Many branches are formed that taper towards the base. The leaves, which are reddish in color at the edges, are in terminal rosettes and are egg-shaped. They are 17 millimeters long and 15 millimeters wide. The somewhat purple-colored petiole becomes 3 millimeters long. The individually standing stipule spines are 5 millimeters long and are initially a little purple in color. They form a large and spherical base.
The inflorescence consists of single and simple cymes . The egg-shaped and yellow colored cyathophylls are 4 millimeters in size and are spread out. The small cyathia are 3 millimeters in size and the nectar glands are yellow-green in color. The ovary has a short stalk. Nothing is known about the fruits and seeds.
Distribution and systematics
Euphorbia bulbispina is endemic to the north of Madagascar in the Antsiranana area . The species is on the IUCN Red List and is considered endangered (Vulnerable).
The species was first described in 1991 by Werner Rauh and Alfred Razafindratsira . A synonym is Euphorbia milii var. Bulbispina Rauh .
