Euphorbia copiapina is a species of the genus spurge ( Euphorbia ) in the family of Euphorbiaceae (Euphorbiaceae).

description

The succulent Euphorbia copiapina grows as a geophyte with a bulbous root that is about 3 centimeters wide and 10 centimeters long. Many short shoots are formed that are flat above or on the ground. The upright and spread branches are up to 8 centimeters long. The more or less round leaves are almost sessile, plump, curled at the edges and bluish-green in color.

The umbel-like cymen have 3 to 4 rays. The inflorescence stalks are short and the elliptical nectar glands have fine teeth on the edges. They are yellowish to purple in color and just barely touch. The bluntly lobed fruit is about 3 millimeters in size and is almost sessile. Nothing is known about the seed.

Distribution and systematics

Euphorbia copiapina is widespread in northern and central Chile in the Región de Atacama .

The species was first described in 1860 by Rudolph Amandus Philippi . Synonyms for this species are Euphorbia subumbellata Steud. ex Boiss. (1862) and Euphorbia calderensis Phil. (1895).
