Euphorbia corniculata is a species of the genus spurge ( Euphorbia ) in the family of Euphorbiaceae (Euphorbiaceae).

description

The succulent Euphorbia corniculata grows as a small shrub that branches out from the base and becomes up to 15 centimeters high. It has a fibrous root and the six- to eight-sided shoots are about stalk-round and reach a diameter of up to 1.5 centimeters. On the edges of the shoots protruding warts are arranged, which are almost completely covered by the thorn shields. The warts are metallic gray in color and the oval thorn shields are up to 1.25 centimeters long and 1 centimeter wide. The thorns are up to 8 millimeters long, the stipules up to 1.5 millimeters long.

Flower detail

Individual, simple and almost sedentary cymen are formed. The cyathia reach 3.5 millimeters in diameter. The elongated nectar glands are blood-red in color and barely butt against each other. The ovary is arranged almost sitting. Nothing is known about the fruit and the seed.

Distribution and systematics

Euphorbia corniculata is distributed in Mozambique , in the southeast of the Niassa province, on rocks at an altitude of about 400 meters.

The species was first described in 1949 by Robert Allen Dyer .
