Euphorbia damarana is a species of the genus spurge ( Euphorbia ) in the family of Euphorbiaceae (Euphorbiaceae).
description
The succulent Euphorbia damarana forms shrubs that branch out densely from the base and can reach a height of up to 3 meters. Only a few branches are formed in the direction of the shoot tips. The plants reach a diameter of up to 6 meters. The stiff and fibrous shoots are up to 12 millimeters thick and are yellowish green in color. The elliptical leaves are sessile and are up to 8 millimeters long and 3.5 millimeters wide. The falling leaves have two epididymal glands at the base.
The inflorescence consists of cymes , which are located on stems up to 2 millimeters long and are in clusters. There are fewer female than male cyathias . They reach a diameter of up to 9 millimeters. The elliptical nectar glands are yellowish in color and butt against each other. Many stamens are formed that have woolly bracteoles . The almost spherical fruit is 16 millimeters long and 20 millimeters wide. It is located on a 4 millimeter long handle and has four to six compartments. The egg-shaped seed is 5.5 millimeters long and 8 millimeters wide. It has a smooth surface.
Distribution and systematics
Euphorbia damarana is widespread in Namibia in the deserts of Damaraland .
The species was first described in 1975 by Leslie Charles Leach . A synonyms for this type is Tirucallia damarana (LCLeach) PVHeath (1996).
