Euphorbia deightonii is a species of the genus milkweed ( Euphorbia ) in the family of the milkweed family(Euphorbiaceae).

description

The succulent Euphorbia deightonii grows as an abundantly branched shrub or small tree and reaches a height of 5 meters. The very broad crown develops up to a diameter of 18 meters. The three to six-sided branches are up to 4.5 centimeters wide and are divided into elongated sections by constrictions. The wing-like edges are set with bulged teeth at a distance of 2.5 centimeters from each other. The obovate thorn shields are up to 9 millimeters long and 6 millimeters wide. Thorns up to 12 millimeters long and very small, strongly succulent stipule spines are formed.

The inflorescence consists of one to three simple cymes , which are stalked 1 centimeter long. There are cyathia formed with a diameter of 9 millimeters. The elliptical nectar glands butt against each other. The clearly lobed fruit is slightly pressed at the base and is about 5 millimeters long and 15 millimeters wide. It is located on a 3 millimeter long handle. The spherical seed is 3 millimeters in size and has a smooth surface.

Distribution and systematics

Euphorbia deightonii is common in Benin , Ghana , Guinea , Ivory Coast , Liberia , Nigeria , Sierra Leone, and Togo .

The species was first described in 1938 by Léon Camille Marius Croizat .
