Euphorbia unispina is a species of the genus spurge ( Euphorbia ) in the family of Euphorbiaceae (Euphorbiaceae).

description

The succulent Euphorbia unispina forms little branched shrubs up to 3 meters high. The stalk-round shoots are up to 2.5 centimeters in diameter and are covered with flat warts that stand in 4 to 5 spiral rows. The thorn shields reach about 7 millimeters in diameter and the thorns are up to 10 millimeters long. The leaves that stand close together at the tip of the shoots are obovate and are 11.5 centimeters long and 5 centimeters wide. They are frayed and finely pointed at the tips. The leaves remain on younger shoots for a long time.

The single to 2-fold bifurcated inflorescences consist of cymen are almost sessile. The cyathia are about 4 millimeters in diameter. The elliptical nectar glands are colored red. The bluntly lobed fruit reaches a diameter of 6 millimeters.

Distribution and systematics

Euphorbia unispina is distributed in West Africa , in Guinea and Mali , in the north of Nigeria and further east to the south of Sudan .

The species was first described in 1911 by Nicholas Edward Brown .
