EuroFIR (European Food Information Resource) is a non-profit, international organization that supports the use of existing food information (information on energy and nutrient content, as well as content of secondary plant substances) and future newly developed resources through cooperation and harmonization of information quality, functionality and global standards supported.

EuroFIR sees its mission as the development, management, publication and utilization of food information, as well as the promotion of international cooperation and harmonization through improved data quality, database searchability and standards.

history

The European Excellence Network EuroFIR (2005-10; EuroFIR) was a Network of Excellence (NoE) consisting of 48 partners from science, research institutions and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in 27 countries. The Excellence Network was funded under the EU Sixth Framework Program (Priority 5: Food Quality and Safety; Contract No. FP6-513944).

One of its main goals was to develop, for the first time, a single online platform with up-to-date information on food composition across Europe. Another important result of EuroFIR was the establishment of a long-term sustainable platform to continue key activities of the project and this was achieved through the establishment of the non-profit organization EuroFIR AISBL. The organization now has 42 members of the original 48 EuroFIR partners. The main objective of EuroFIR AISBL is to support and promote the development, management, publication and application of food information, through international cooperation and harmonization.
