Eurodiaconia is a diaconal network of churches and Christian organizations in Europe that provide social work and health care and advocate social justice . The seat of the Secretariat is in Brussels , Belgium .

history

Eurodiaconia was founded and registered as a non-governmental organization in Strasbourg , France in 1995 in accordance with the statutes . In 2008 it was registered in Belgium as an international, non-profit making company. Heather Roy has been Secretary General since 2008.

In 2019, 51 national and regional organizations from 33 countries and regions belong to Eurodiaconia. The members of Eurodiaconia provide social and permanent care, advice and medical care for the most needy.

Eurodiaconia's highest decision-making body is the annual general assembly. It is organized alternately by the member organizations in the respective country in Europe. In 2019 the annual basic meeting took place in Edinburgh , Scotland .

financing

Eurodiaconia is registered as a non-governmental organization in Belgium and receives financial support from the European Union's Employment and Social Innovation program "EaSi" from 2014 to 2020. The main source of income is the membership fees of associated organizations and grants from the European Commission.

Cooperations

Eurodiaconia is a member of the Social Platform network , the Research and Study of Diaconia and Christian Social Practice (ReDi), the European Anti-Poverty Network (EAPN) and the Social Services Europe network .
