European Parliament Platform for Secularism in Politics
The European Parliament Platform for Secularism in Politics or platform of the European Parliament for secularism in politics ( EPPSP is) a cross-party coalition of members of the European Parliament , which in its self-understanding of secularism use. The chairmen are the Dutchwoman Sophie in 't Veld ( ALDE / D66 ) and the French Virginie Rozière ( S&D / PRG ).
aims
The EPPSP aims to create awareness of the separation of religion and state and to protect the values and principles of the European Union . She wants to defend religious freedom and freedom before religion and sees herself as a defender of minorities.
organization
Numerous EU parliamentarians belong to the EPPSP. In 't Veld and Rozière, politicians Jean-Marie Cavada ( Nouveau Center , France) and Dennis de Jong ( SP , Netherlands) sit on the board as vice-chairmen. The Advisory Board is made up of the following organizations: Center d'Action Laïque , European Humanist Federation , Catholics for Choice , Catolicas por el Derecho a Decidir de Espana , European Network Church on the Move , Eglises et Libertés , Iglesia por la Libertad , Association Européenne de la Pensée Libre , British Humanist Association , Human Rights Without Frontiers , National Secular Society .
Awards
For her commitment to the EPPSP, Sophie in 't Veld received both the Secularist of the Year (Irwin Prize) from the National Secular Society and the International Humanist Award from the International Humanist and Ethical Union in 2011 .
