Dennis de Jong

Cornelis (Dennis) de Jong (born May 22, 1955 in Delft ) is a Dutch politician of the Socialist Party .

Life

After finishing school, De Jong studied law and political economy at the Erasmus University Rotterdam , where he graduated in law in 1976 and economics in 1977. He then went to New York City , where he studied at the New School of Social Research and received his Masters in International Relations in 1979 . After completing his studies, De Jong got a job as a diplomat at the Dutch Foreign Office. From 1983 to 1987 De Jong worked at the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor in the Netherlands and from 1987 to 1993 he worked for the Ministry of Justice, where he was head of the Aliens Policy Department. In 2000 he received his doctorate in international law. De Jong has been a member of the European Parliament since 2009 . He is on the board of the European Parliament Platform for Secularism in Politics (EPPSP).

De Jong is vice chairman of the special committee against organized crime, corruption and money laundering .

He is a member of the Committee for the Internal Market and Consumer Protection and the Delegation for Relations with the Countries of Southeast Asia and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). He is a deputy on the Committee on Budgetary Control and the Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs .

De Jong lives in Rotterdam with his partner Kees Vrijdag . He is a member of the Protestant Church in the Netherlands .
