Eustaquio Méndez (born September 19, 1784 in Canasmoro / Tarija ; † 1841 in Santa Bárbara / Tarija) was a military leader in the war of independence in Bolivia, the then Alto-Peru . The province of Eustaquio Méndez now bears his name in his honor.

Eustaquio Méndez was born in Churqui Huayco, a village near Canasmoro , which in 1784 belonged to the Salta province of the viceroyalty of the Río de la Plata and is now part of the municipality of San Lorenzo in the Tarija department in Bolivia . Méndez was the son of Juan Méndez and Maria Arenas, who were both of Creole origin.

Méndez played a decisive role in the resistance in Alto-Peru against the Spanish royalists, one of his greatest successes being the victory at the Battle of Sipe Sipe (1816). He died in 1841 in the Battle of Santa Barbara fighting against Coronel Rosendi's troops.
