Eustaquio Méndez is a province in the northwestern part of the Tarija Department in the South American Andean state of Bolivia .

location

The province of Eustaquio Méndez is one of six provinces in the Tarija department. It lies between 20 ° 57 'and 21 ° 36' south latitude and between 64 ° 23 'and 65 ° 15' west longitude .

The province is bordered to the north and west by the Chuquisaca , on the south by José María Avilés Province in the southeast of the province Cercado , and the east by the province Burnet O'Connor .

The province extends over a length of 90 kilometers in a north-south direction and over 105 kilometers in an east-west direction.

population

The population of the province of Eustaquio Méndez has increased by around 15 percent over the past two decades:

46.9 percent of the population are younger than 15 years. 99.7 percent of the population speak Spanish , 1.7 percent Quechua , 0.2 percent Aymara , and 0.1 percent Guaraní . ( 2001 )

In 1992, 78.1 percent of the population had no access to electricity , 77.8 percent lived without sanitary facilities . By 2012 it was possible to increase the power supply to 80.6% and the number of toilets in households to 68.8%. Today (as of January 2020) there is almost a full supply of electricity. There are concrete investment projects for the remaining localities not yet connected to the grid.

67.8 percent of those in employment work in agriculture , 0.1 percent in mining , 5.9 percent in industry , and 26.2 percent in the service sector ( 2001 ).

95.1 percent of the population are Catholic , 3.1 percent are Protestant ( 1992 ).
