El Puente (German: " the bridge ") is a town in the Tarija Department in the South American Andean state of Bolivia .
Location in the vicinity
El Puente is the central place of the district ( Bolivian : Municipio ) El Puente in the province of Eustaquio Méndez . The village is located at an altitude of 2335 m on the right bank of the Río San Juan del Oro , which later leads to the Río Pilaya and further into the Río Pilcomayo .

El Puente is located in the southern part of the Bolivian Altiplano on the northeastern edge of the Cordillera de Lípez . The climate is semi-arid , the pronounced dry season lasts for more than half of the year.
The mean average temperature of the region is around 18 ° C (see climate diagram Las Carreras) and fluctuates over the course of the year between almost 14 ° C in June / July and 21 ° C in January. The annual precipitation is hardly more than 400 mm, whereby the monthly precipitation in the dry season is less than 20 mm and only in the southern winter reaches values of almost 100 mm.

Transport network
El Puente is located at a river crossing over the Río San Juan 106 kilometers by road northwest of Tarija , the capital of the department.
The 1215 kilometer long highway Ruta 1 , which crosses the Bolivian Altiplano from north to south, runs through El Puente . It leads from Desaguadero on Lake Titicaca via El Alto , Oruro , Potosí and Camargo to El Puente and on via Tarija to Bermejo on the Argentine border.
