The Río Pilaya is a river in the Andes in southern Bolivia .

The river has a total length of 125 kilometers and forms the southeastern border of the high mountain region of the Cordillera de Tajsara o Tarachaca . It forms at the confluence of the Río Cedro Mayu with the Río Pampa Largo. Downstream, the Río Pilaya flows into the Río Pilcomayo , which is part of the river system of the Río de la Plata .

Administratively, the river runs between the Bolivian department of Chuquisaca in the northwest and the department of Tarija in the southeast. Northwest of the Río Camblaya is the province of Sud Cinti with the municipality of Culpina . South of the river is the province of Eustaquio Méndez with the municipality of San Lorenzo and the province of Burnet O'Connor . The river has dug itself deep into the high mountain landscape of the region, the width of the river's course fluctuates between 50 and 1000 meters from the union with the Río Camblaya , its valley is almost uninhabited.

The Pilaya Canyon ( Cañón del Pilaya ) has a depth of around 3000 meters in some places, making it one of the most extreme in the world. The tourist significance is still low due to the lack of infrastructure.
