Eutomostethus ephippium is a plant wasp from the family of Real sawflies (Tenthredinidae).

features

The species reaches a body length of 5–7 mm. The black plant wasps have a red thorax . The legs are mostly black. The basal half of the tibia is whitish in color. The gray-yellow larvae reach a length of 9-10 mm.

distribution

The species occurs in the Palearctic . It is widespread in Europe. It also occurs in the Nearctic , where it was probably introduced.

Way of life

Typical habitats of the species are wet meadows and grassy areas near the forest edge. The species is possibly polyvoltine . The adult plant wasps fly from May to September. The larvae develop on sweet grasses (Poaceae).
