Eva Abu Halaweh ( Arabic إيفا أبو حلاوة, DMG Īfā Abū Ḥalāwa ; born January 1, 1975 ) is a lawyer and human rights activist in Jordan . She received the International Women of Courage Award in 2011 .

biography

She is co-founder and currently managing director of the Mizan Law Group for Human Rights in Amman . Abu Halaweh holds a bachelor's degree in law and a master's degree in diplomacy. Since 1993 she has been a member of the Arab Organization for Human Rights . Abu Halaweh previously headed a private law firm and from 2003 worked as a legal advisor to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees .

Abu Halaweh campaigns against so-called honor killings and for the protection of endangered and vulnerable women, as well as for the elimination of torture and abuse in the Jordanian prison system and at police stations.
