Church in Scheibe-Alsbach

The Evangelical Lutheran Church Scheibe is a neo-Gothic church in Scheibe , a village in the district of Scheibe-Alsbach in the town of Neuhaus am Rennweg in the district of Sonneberg ( Thuringia ). It was built from 1861 to 1866.

history

From 1740 to 1839, the church was cared for by the Steinheid parish, which was part of Sachsen-Meiningen . From 1780, a school existed in Scheibe, for which a schoolhouse with a prayer room was built in 1821. In 1839 a parish was established after the parish of Oberweißbach was previously responsible. With the help of a collection outside the principality of Schwarzburg-Rudolstadt , the parish was able to finance the construction of its own church, which was built from 1861 to 1866 according to plans by the Coburg building council and architect Vinzenz Fischer-Birnbaum. The Schwarzburg construction advisors Bianchi and Brecht designed parts of the furnishings and the Steinheid master mason Beyer designed the church tower, which was completed in 1892.

Architecture and equipment

The neo-Gothic hall church stands in an exposed position on the plateau of a mountain spur above the broad valley cut of the Schwarza . Its facade was clad with sandstone ashlar masonry. The church has a polygonal, vaulted apse and a tower with a square base, an octagonal tower and a cross-crowned pointed spire. The nave has a wooden mirrored ceiling and, opposite the apse, a gallery on which an organ by the Schulze brothers from Paulinzella from 1867 stands. The east wall of the nave is adorned with a painting made around 1900/1910 depicting Paul, Peter, David and Moses in arcature . The central apse window shows a glass painting from 1910 depicting Christ as the Good Shepherd.

Three hard-cast iron bells , cast by Schilling & Lattermann in Apolda in 1924 , hang in the church tower.
