The Evangelical Dreifaltigkeitskirche Eberstadt is a Protestant church in Darmstadt-Eberstadt .

history

The first written evidence of a church in Eberstadt comes from around 1260. Konrad Reiz von Breuberg , builder of Frankenstein Castle , donates a soul mass in the church. It was not given the name "Dreifaltigkeitskirche" until 1960; until then it was simply called “Eberstädter Church”, and until 1911 it was the only one.

The new 26 m high church tower was decorated in 1523 with the coats of arms of the builders Hans and Philipp von Frankenstein and their wives. The Lords of Frankenstein also donated a golden communion chalice (1506), the bell “St. Anna “(1512), baptismal pot and baptismal bowl (16th century). Three bells have been identified since the 18th century. A tower clock with a quarter-hour strike has been around since 1725.

In 1604 the church was enlarged by about half. In 1715 the church was extensively renovated. During a renovation in the years 1850/51, the church tower was raised and given a pointed dome. In 1893, a little below the Kirchberg, the new rectory was built in the style of historicism. In 1912, after extensive renovation by Friedrich Pützer , the church was given its present form. The Jubilee Fountain (also: Pfarrerbrunnen ) at the foot of the Kirchberg comes from this time . The fountain commemorates the 250th anniversary of Eberstadt's transition from the Lords of Frankenstein to Hessen-Darmstadt.

The last redesign of the church took place in 1961, in which the flat-roofed nave in the east was extended by rectangular niches and the furnishings by Pützer in the moderate Art Nouveau style were removed.

Parish hall

Parish hall of the Ev. Trinity parish Darmstadt-Eberstadt

The parish hall of the Evangelical Trinity Church, built in 1930, is located directly next to the Evangelical Trinity Church at Heidelberger Landstrasse 311.

The parish hall has been redesigned and expanded many times since it was built. First of all, the Protestant community care station in Darmstadt-Eberstadt was added to the community center in 1940. An apartment for the Elisabethenstift sisters was built on the first floor. The rooms on the ground floor were redesigned in 1957 for the St. Johannes youth community at the time. From 1962 to 1971 the rooms of the parish hall were used by the parish kindergarten.

Structurally, the parish hall was expanded to the north in 1984/85. A room was created for the “old people meeting” as well as a youth room in the newly created basement. In 1993 another annex was added to the south, which has since been used as a material room.

monument

A few meters southwest of the Holy Trinity Church is a monument made of red sandstone. The monument reminds of the old Eberstadt cemetery on the area of the church.

On the front of the monument there is a metal plate with the following inscription :

In memory
of all the dead who were buried in the old Eberstadt cemetery by the church
for centuries
up to 1843 . Lord, let them rest in your peace!

On the back of the monument there is an engraving in the sandstone with the following text:
