Evangelical Church in Wössingen

The Evangelical Parish Church in Wössingen , a district of the Walzbachtal community in the Karlsruhe district ( Baden-Württemberg ), was built between 1817 and 1822. The church is a protected architectural monument .

history

Traditionally there were two Protestant parishes in the village, one in Unterwössingen and the other in Oberwössingen. In 1816 the two independent parishes were united, each with a church and a parsonage.

The plans for the common new church were drawn up by Friedrich Weinbrenner . The foundation stone was laid on October 21, 1817 and the inauguration took place on April 21, 1822. The building of the church was interrupted by the bankruptcy of the building contractor.

architecture

The church, built in the classicism style, is located at the top of a long flight of stairs and dominates the place. The church tower stands at the front of the nave . The entrance is in a high niche designed as a triumphal arch .

Epitaphs

The grave monuments of three former lords of the castle were transferred from the former church in Oberwössingen to the new church in 1822. The grave monuments of Hans von Stain von Raichenstein and his wife Margarethe, b. von Westerstedt, from the year 1575. The tomb of a Lord von Wildungen and the tomb of Johann Georg Schilling von Cannstatt († 23 July 1728) and his wife Sophie Magdalena Katharina von Widerhold.
