Anne Cameron

Anne Cameron (born August 20, 1938 in Nanaimo , British Columbia , Canada ) is a Canadian writer , poet and screenwriter who published her first work under the pseudonym Cam Hubert .

Life

Anne Cameron was born on August 20, 1938 in Nanaimo, British Columbia, to a coal miner. Living halfway between the Chinese Quarter and the Indian reservation, she referred to the world of books as her real refuge in retrospect. As a teenager, she wrote her first stories on toilet paper until her mother gave her a typewriter. Married and divorced at a young age, she made up her school diploma and worked in various professions, such as telephone switching or a doctor's assistant.

She published her first plays and scripts under the pseudonym Cam Hubert . Her first play Windigo , which was based on a documentary poem, was one of the first plays to address racism against Indians in 1974 and was also performed by an Indian theater group.

The avowed lesbian lives with her partner in Tahsis , British Columbia. She previously lived in Powell River and spent most of her life on Vancouver Island . Many of her books are influenced by the myths and culture of the American Indians in northwest North America .
