Evangelical church oaks

The Evangelical Church in the Schopfheimer district oaks was built in the 1810s.

history

A St. Pankratius chapel in oak was already in place in the middle of the 12th century, as archaeological excavations in 1979 and 1980 have shown. The neighboring field names Kirchrain and Kirchweid also bear witness to this fact. At times, the communities Hasel and Dossenbach were also looked after from Eichen. The first documentary mention of a priest (Dietrich von Eichen) took place in 1243. It is known that this first building had a trapezoidal floor plan that widened towards the east and ended with a retracted apse . In the 14th century the choir was redesigned. Between 1360 and 1370 Eichel is mentioned as a branch of Schopfheim ("ecclesia Schopfheim cum filiabus, videlicet Eychem et Warnow").

The current church in Eichen was completed in 1818, which is evidenced by the date carved over the south entrance. In the 19th century it served temporarily as a simultaneous church until the Catholic parish received its own church in Schopfheim in 1880 with the parish church of St. Bernhard . In 1963 the interior was renovated and the altar was also modernized.

description

Roof turret

The church is on the western outskirts, not far from the B 317 , and is surrounded by a small cemetery. The rectangular hall building with a gable roof has three arched windows on each of its long sides and carries a roof turret on the west side , which in turn is closed off by a pyramid roof with a tower ball and cross. On the east wall a stone is embedded in the facade, which bears the margravial coat of arms with the year 1505. Unusual in the spelling of the Latin numbers MCCCCCV is the accumulation of the five C, the symbol of the hundred.

The bronze e ′ ′ bell was cast in 1710 by Jacob Roth and Hans Heinrich Weitenauer from Basel and was probably taken over from the chapel. The positive used in the organ comes from Wilhelm Wagner from Grötzingen in 1963 and works with one manual and three registers .
