The Evangelical Church in Altersberg in the Trebesing community is privately owned. It comes from the Romanesque. 1990–1996 it was adapted again for church services.

history

The Romanesque church was formerly dedicated to St. George . It stands on the ancient cultural soil of the Brixen monastery . It was first mentioned in 1065. Around 1641 it was first mentioned as a branch church of Lieseregg , around 1780 it was described as poor and dispensable and abandoned. In 1807 the church was sold and used as an outbuilding for a nearby farm. In 1985 the church was placed under a preservation order ( list entry ). It was restored in 1995/96. On July 7, 1996 the first Protestant service took place.

Building description

The church is a small 13th century building made of quarry stone with a flat-roofed nave and a small semicircular apse . Outside on the north wall there is a fresco of St. George from the first half of the 15th century, on the north apse wall a fresco fragment of a crucifixion, on the east wall three kneeling and praying figures from the second half of the 14th century. The portal, which was designed in the late Gothic tradition, and the baroque interior design probably date from the time of the restoration in 1656 . Older frescos have been exposed under the ornamental frescoes from the mid-17th century in the apse vault. The figures depict apostles and saints under Christ Pantocrator in the mandorla (14th – 15th centuries), symbols of the evangelists , a cycle of saints and a scene of donors. The depiction of the Lamb of God from the end of the 14th century and Saint George on the north wall of the nave can be seen on the triumphal arch wall. The baroque frescoes of the Jesuit saints Stanislaus Kostka and Aloysius Gonzaga , the reproduction of the instruments of torture of Saints Catherine and Leonhard as well as a harness with weapons and the inscription SPQR date from 1656 .
